Baptist Mission Conference 2008
Every year the Baptist Mission Conference gathers their leaders together from every country from Colombia to the United States. This year Nicaragua was the host country, and Skylark had a opportunity to hold the event. One of the key speakers for this event was Grady Higgs, the International Director for Baptist Missionary Association of America which currently has 1100 missionaries serving in 74 different countries. La Quinta Nina, from the Church of God held a youth retreat with us from December 5th to 7th. This great group of kids spent time receiving teaching from their leaders, did a lot of team building activities and held a talent show. Heart for Mission Conference
A large group enjoyed this 10 day adventure and heard dynamic speakers challenge their "Hearts for Mission" and they experienced first hand the need for great commission thinking and great commandment living. Skylark Scrapbook 2009 No. 1

One of the many ministries working with the children of Nicaragua is ''Ministerios Tia Linda''. They held a training event at the Skylark Centre, March 3 to 5, 2009, for about 50 of their leaders. Tia Linda has a strong focus on reaching out to children and they work within the 4-14 window - the window is based on the fact that 85% of people who believe in Jesus Christ as their personal saviour, come to Him between the ages of 4 and 14. The team that arrived at the centre is a dedicated group who longs to see God reach into the lives of the little ones they work with. Mundo de Fe - April 2009
Mundo de Fe has a strong history of doing ministry in Nicaragua, especially in the area of pastor training. They have also built up a vibrant church in Managua, and for Easter weekend brought 140 of their youth to the Skylark Centre for a retreat. The leadership of Mundo de Fe is investing heavily in these young people and spent 3 days sharing their faith, worshipping together and just having a great time as kids. Church of Christ - April 2009
During Holy Week the Skylark Centre was invaded by 100 young people from the Church of Christ for 4 days of fun and spiritual growth. Joining these young people was Jim Richey, who helped raise funds so the kids could attend this wonderful retreat. He has a big heart for the youth of Nicaragua and did a great job organizing the event. Presidential Visit May 2009
The Skylark Centre was honoured to welcome the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, his wife and 500 supporters for a presidential event on May 6. The televised event welcomed three new ambassadors to Nicaragua. New ambassadors for Italy, Norway and the European presented their credentials to the President. The occasion also gave Daniel Ortega the opportunity to share some of his political philosophies with loyal supporters and encourage the crowd. Skylark was a beehive of activity for 24 hours as the set up crew arrived around 10 pm the night before to set up the stage, lights, sound equipment and flowers. As well, a large number of police and security were on site and in the surrounding area to assure the security of the President and his party. Although the President only visited the Skylark Centre, the local community of Los Medranos was proud to have their leader visit their barrio. Residents gathered outside of the gates for much of the day, and flew flags as the time approached for Ortega to arrive. But, the tournament was more than merely an opportunity to play soccer. It was a chance to make connections with the youth (and that is a loose definition of youth, some of the players were over 20!) and give them great context to develop their relationship with God.
